Our Transitional Kindergarten program is designed to support your child’s academic, physical, social and emotional development as we help prepare them for kindergarten and beyond.

Health & Safety

Our school is committed to high standards of safety and cleanliness as we create a caring and nurturing environment where children can thrive.

Requiring any children or staff with respiratory illness symptoms or fever to return home and stay home until fever free for at least 24 hours
Frequent disinfecting and sanitizing of high-touch toys
Frequent handwashing by children and staff, which is embedded in our curriculum and daily staff protocols
Training teachers on common signs of illness in children and placing signage in every classroom to keep signs of illness top of mind
Individual cots and blankets are provided for each child and laundered weekly
Ensuring appropriate teacher-student classroom ratios
Continuous health & safety training for our staff, including first aid and CPR certification
Maintaining an up-to-date and customized Safe School Plan posted in all classrooms for easy teacher access

Transitional Kindergarten Lead Teacher

Meet Ms. Denise!

Ms. Denise brings an incredible 26 years of experience working with children! She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, with an emphasis in Early Literacy. Her extensive experience and passion for education shine through in her dedication to helping young learners build strong foundations for lifelong learning.

Ms. Denise finds tremendous joy in watching children grow, develop new skills, and reach exciting milestones throughout the year. Above all, she wants every child to feel valued, loved, and celebrated for exactly who they are. She believes that nurturing each child’s unique strengths and individuality is just as important as supporting their academic growth.

Ms. Denise loves being part of the Primrose School of Winfield family because of its warm, welcoming, and supportive community. She appreciates being surrounded by caring educators and families who share her commitment to creating a positive environment where every child feels special and has the opportunity to thrive!

Hi, I’m Ms. Courtney! I’ve been working with children for 10 years and have completed coursework in Elementary Education, along with years of hands-on experience. I love watching children learn and grow and having the opportunity to make a positive difference throughout their journey.

What I love most about Primrose School of Winfield is building meaningful relationships with our Primrose families and my fellow teachers. I’m grateful to be part of such a caring and supportive community! 💗

Today's Question of the Day, "Do you like rain?" gives children an opportunity to express their preferences, make choices, and discover that their classmates may have different opinions. By asking questions, evaluating choices, and sharing their thinking, children build confidence, independence, and respect for different perspectives. Transitional Kindergarten Opportunities to Create and Grow

In our Transitional Kindergarten classroom, creativity and confidence go hand in hand 🎨✨ Our students are given the freedom to explore, imagine, and create in their own unique ways. But the magic doesn’t stop there! After completing their artwork, they have the opportunity to share with their Transitional Kindergarten classmates—explaining their ideas, their process, and the story behind their creations. Moments like these help build strong communication skills, boost confidence, and encourage a sense of pride in their work 💛 We love watching our students grow as both artists and storytellers!

Strategic Thinking Begins: Chess in Transitional Kindergarten ♟️

In our Transitional Kindergarten classroom, students are introduced to the game of chess through Primrose Enrichment. As they learn basic moves and strategies, children build critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and patience—all while having fun and gaining confidence in their decision-making.

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program is designed for children who are academically ready for greater challenges before entering kindergarten. It is an excellent option for students with birthdays closer to the Illinois kindergarten cut-off or for families seeking an additional year of academic enrichment and social-emotional growth. Using our exclusive Balanced Learning® curriculum, TK students participate in advanced literacy, writing, math, STEM, science, social studies, creative arts, and leadership experiences that build critical thinking, executive functioning, and kindergarten readiness. Through differentiated small-group instruction, our teachers continue to meet each child where they are while providing opportunities to accelerate learning. To ensure every child reaches their fullest potential, we utilize Renaissance Star Early Literacy® assessments to guide instruction and monitor growth. In 2026, our Transitional Kindergarten students achieved an average Grade Equivalent (GE) score of 2.2, meaning the average TK student performed at a level comparable to a student in the second month of second grade on the same assessment. These results reflect our commitment to individualized instruction, high expectations, and academic excellence. Beyond academics, TK students continue to develop confidence, independence, collaboration, and leadership skills, ensuring they enter kindergarten not only academically prepared but also socially and emotionally ready to thrive. At Primrose School of Winfield, our Transitional Kindergarten program provides the ideal bridge between preschool and elementary school, giving children the opportunity to excel with confidence.
