Welcome! I am Dr. Christa Stalcup, and my husband, Steve, and I are the proud owners of Primrose School of Winfield. We are honored to have the opportunity to serve the families of Wheaton, Winfield, Glen Ellyn, and Northwestern Central DuPage Hospital.
As a lifelong educator, I have worked in the field of education for over 25 years. With a doctoral degree in educational leadership, and varied experience as a classroom teacher, administrator, and university professor, I will use this skill set to ensure the Primrose Balanced Learning® approach is implemented with fidelity balancing purposeful play with nurturing guidance from teachers to encourage curiosity, creativity, confidence and compassion. After much reflection, I decided that early childhood education is the educational area that gratifies my heart. My children and husband often call me a “magnet,” as young children seem to always find their way into my arms while waiting in line at the grocery store. I am deeply committed to the children, families and communities we serve. At Primrose, we believe that who children become is as important as what they know!
Satisfying the roles of a supportive husband and business partner, Steve is happy to accompany me on this Primrose venture. With over 28 years of experience as a financial advisor, helping clients achieve their financial/retirement goals, we are the perfect pairing to ensure a stable, nurturing and supportive environment for our Primrose children. This expertise will support the business side, although you are sure to see him around. He’s always up for a great conversation! As part of Primrose Schools, we believe in giving back. Steve continues to coach youth sports in our local community and works to build the children’s physical abilities and strong character. Having five “almost grown” children between us, we value our family and will value yours as well, working with you to build a trusted relationship. Building active minds, healthy bodies and happy hearts is our goal at Primrose School of Winfield. We are so excited to meet you and show you all that Primrose has to offer!

Are all staff members background-checked and CPR/first-aid certified?
Yes. Every Primrose staff member undergoes a thorough background check before joining our school. All staff are also CPR and first–aid certified, so you can feel confident your child is in safe, prepared hands every day.
What curriculum or educational philosophy do you follow?
Our school uses the proprietary Primrose Schools Balanced Learning® curriculum, which is research-informed and designed to nurture the whole child — intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically. We believe in balancing teacher-guided learning with purposeful play to build a strong foundation for the future.
How do you support school readiness and the transition to kindergarten?
All of our programs are designed in age-appropriate ways to prepare children for kindergarten and beyond. We focus on early literacy and numeracy as well as social-emotional skill development — so children arrive at kindergarten confident and ready to thrive. 96% of Primrose Schools Pre-K students met ASQ benchmarks for problem solving.*

What ages does each classroom serve?
At Primrose School of Winfield, we recognize that every stage of early childhood brings unique developmental milestones. Our classrooms are thoughtfully designed to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment where children can grow, explore, and thrive.
To ensure the safety of our littlest learners, we divide our infant program into three age groups, allowing us to better support each child’s developmental needs and provide age-appropriate experiences.
- Infant 1: Birth–7 months
- Infant 2: 8–12 months
- Infant 3: 12–16 months
- Toddler: 15–24 months
- Early Preschool (EPS): 24–30 months
- Preschool Pathways: 30–42 months
- Preschool: 3–4 years
- Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K): 4–5 years
- Transitional Kindergarten (TK): 4–5 years
Our Infant 3 classroom serves as a wonderful bridge between infancy and toddlerhood. Through intentional routines, emerging independence, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences, we gently prepare children for a successful transition into our Toddler program.
Preschool placement is based on our September 1 age cutoff. Children who turn three by September 1 are eligible to transition into our Preschool program for the new academic year.
Our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program offers an exceptional option for children who narrowly miss the kindergarten age cutoff or would benefit from an additional year of academic and social-emotional growth. TK provides a developmentally appropriate challenge, building confidence, independence, and kindergarten readiness through engaging, purposeful learning experiences.
At Primrose School of Winfield, classroom transitions are guided by each child’s age, developmental readiness, and individual needs, ensuring that every child feels supported, confident, and ready for their next exciting stage of learning.
Are meals and snacks included, and how are allergies accommodated?
Absolutely! At Primrose School of Winfield, all meals and snacks are included in tuition, with up to five nutritious meals and snacks served throughout the day. Children are offered food approximately every 2–3 hours, ensuring they stay nourished, energized, and ready to learn and play!
All food is freshly prepared in our on-site kitchen, with special attention given to the developmental needs and safety of our youngest learners. For little ones, food is carefully cut into small, age-appropriate pieces to help minimize choking risks and encourage safe, independent eating.
Food allergies and dietary restrictions are taken very seriously. Primrose School of Winfield is a nut-free school, and we are happy to accommodate food allergies and dietary needs. Our kitchen team prepares meals for children with dietary restrictions on specially designated red plates, providing an important visual safety reminder to our teachers and staff.
Additionally, allergy information is prominently posted in each classroom so our teaching teams remain informed and vigilant.
Our goal is simple: to provide every child with nutritious meals in a safe, inclusive environment, giving families peace of mind and one less thing to pack each morning!

Simply click “Schedule a Tour” on our website to arrange an in-person tour or introductory phone call. During our conversation, we’ll ask for your child’s date of birth and review our enrollment tracker to provide the most up-to-date classroom availability and anticipated openings.
Because we maintain small class sizes and low teacher-to-child ratios, our Infant and Toddler classrooms tend to fill the fastest. We encourage families to begin their childcare search early, especially when planning for an infant or toddler. If your preferred classroom is full, our team will happily explain the waitlist process and help you plan for a future opening.
While our older classrooms follow a school-year curriculum schedule, we offer rolling enrollment throughout the year, welcoming new students as space becomes available.
We currently have a limited number of openings in our classrooms serving children ages 2–5!

What happens during a tour, and what are the next steps afterward?
A tour at Primrose School of Winfield is more than just a walk through our classrooms. It’s an opportunity to get to know your family, learn about your child’s unique needs, and experience the warmth and joy of our PrimWin community!
During your personalized tour, you’ll explore our classrooms, meet members of our leadership and teaching teams, and discover how our Balanced Learning® approach combines purposeful play, academic exploration, character development, and social-emotional learning to build a strong foundation for lifelong success.
We’ll also share what makes Primrose School of Winfield special, including our low teacher-to-child ratios, thoughtfully designed learning environments, comprehensive health and safety practices, freshly prepared meals, and complimentary enrichment activities, such as music, yoga, soccer, and athletics.
Most importantly, we want to hear about your child, answer your questions, and help you envision their day at Primrose!
What happens after your tour?
Our admissions team will review classroom availability based on your child’s age and desired start date. If a space is available, we’ll guide you through the enrollment process, including registration, required forms, and securing your child’s placement. If your preferred classroom is full, we’ll discuss anticipated openings and the opportunity to join our waitlist.
To secure your child’s enrollment, the first month’s tuition is collected upon acceptance of an available classroom placement. This payment is applied directly toward your child’s first month of attendance and is not an additional fee. Collecting tuition in advance allows us to confidently reserve your child’s space while thoughtfully planning classroom staffing and maintaining our low teacher-to-child ratios.
Once enrolled, we’ll invite your family to an orientation and, when age-appropriate, a Discovery Day classroom visit. These opportunities allow your child to become familiar with their new teachers and surroundings while helping us learn about their routines, preferences, and individual needs.
Our goal is to make the transition from home to school as smooth, joyful, and reassuring as possible. From your first tour to your child’s first day, we’re here to support your entire family every step of the way!
