Franchise Owner Ellen Gallagher of Primrose School of Woodstock

Franchise Owner

Ellen Gallagher

Hi, I’m Ellen Gallagher, owner of Primrose School of Woodstock. My husband and I raised two daughters while having two careers, so we understand the importance of having high quality early childhood care that focuses not just on education, but also soft skills and character development.

My journey with Primrose Schools began in 2007 when I decided to pursue my passion for education and leave a career in the athletic footwear industry. I accepted a marketing position with Primrose Schools National Support Center and knew I had made the right decision. Every aspect of Primrose is deliberate and based on early education research with the health and safety of children at its core. Working with franchise owners and seeing their commitment to making a difference in the lives of the families and staff members they served, helped me realize this is where I belonged.

At Primrose School of Woodstock our goal is to create a safe learning environment that is happy, fun and feels like home away from home for your child. Our teachers and leadership team are equally as passionate and committed to delivering on our promise to you which is to provide the best early childhood education and experience that your child can receive each day. As a partner in the care and development of your child, it is important to me to not only meet your expectations but to exceed them!

Please reach out to us to learn more about our school and why Primrose is truly the Leader in Early Education and Care. We look forward to meeting you!

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all staff members background-checked and CPR/first-aid certified?

Yes. Every Primrose staff member undergoes a thorough background check before joining our school. All staff are also CPR and firstaid certified, so you can feel confident your child is in safe, prepared hands every day.

What curriculum or educational philosophy do you follow?

Our school uses the proprietary Primrose Schools Balanced Learning® curriculum, which is research-informed and designed to nurture the whole child — intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically. We believe in balancing teacher-guided learning with purposeful play to build a strong foundation for the future.

How do you support school readiness and the transition to kindergarten?

All of our programs are designed in age-appropriate ways to prepare children for kindergarten and beyond. We focus on early literacy and numeracy as well as social-emotional skill development — so children arrive at kindergarten confident and ready to thrive. 96% of Primrose Schools Pre-K students met ASQ benchmarks for problem solving.*

What are your hours of operation?

We are open Monday through Friday from 6:30 am-6:30 pm.

How do you keep parents informed about their child's day?

Connecting school to home is one of the ways we help children thrive. We use the Procare app to share daily updates and photos so you stay connected to your child’s joy, learning and special moments

What is your policy for school closures?

We follow a structured calendar with planned days off communicated in advance for the year. For any unexpected closures — including weather-related closures — we will communicate them as early as possible.

What is the staff-to-child ratio?

We maintain staff-to-child ratios at or below state licensing requirements to ensure every child receives the attention and care they deserve. Ratios vary by age group.

• Infant (6 weeks–1 year) 1 teacher to 4 infants
• Toddler (1–2 years old) 1 teacher to 6 toddlers
• Early Preschool (2–3 years old) 1 teacher to 8 students
• Preschool (3–4 years old) 1 teacher to 12 students
• Pre-K (4–5 years old) 1 teacher to 12 students

What security measures are in place at drop-off and pick-up?

The safety of your child is our top priority. Our school uses a secure keypad entry system, and only individuals you authorize are permitted to pick up your child.

What is your sick child policy?

We ask that children stay home for at least 24 hours if they have a fever (100.4 degrees or higher), are vomiting, or show symptoms of a contagious illness. This helps keep our entire school community healthy. If your child becomes ill during the day, we will contact you promptly.

Do you offer enrichment programs?

Yes! Primrose School of Woodstock offers enrichment experiences including music, art, character development, and more.

Can parents visit or observe during the day?

We maintain an open-door policy for enrolled families and welcome parent visits. You must check in at the front office upon arrival so we can welcome you properly and minimize disruption to classroom routines.

Do you offer parent-teacher conferences or progress updates?

Yes. We hold regular parent-teacher conferences and provide ongoing communication about your child’s development so you feel like a true partner in your child’s growth. This includes using Ages & Stages Questionnaires®, normed academic measures and Evidence of Learning Portfolios to track your child’s progress so we can personalize their learning experience.

What are the qualifications and early childhood education backgrounds of your teachers?

Our teachers are carefully selected for their passion for early childhood education. All lead teachers hold or are working toward a degree or credential in early childhood education or a related field. We also provide ongoing professional development to ensure our educators stay current with the latest research and best practices.

Are meals and snacks provided?

Yes, our school provides nutritious meals and snacks, and it’s all included in the tuition. We serve balanced meals that include primarily fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables as well as whole grain products where available. Most of our menu items are created here in our kitchen so there are no preservatives, food dyes or mystery additives. This way we can control the amount of salt and sugar (minimal) in everything we serve.

What is the enrollment process?

Getting started is easy! Simply reach out to schedule a tour, and we’ll walk you through everything — from our programs and classrooms to tuition and next steps.

Do you offer after school care for elementary-aged children?

Yes, we offer after school care for children in kindergarten through 2nd grade, available from elementary dismissal until 6:00 PM on school days. Our program provides a structured yet relaxed environment where children can complete homework with staff support, enjoy a healthy snack and participate in enrichment activities and free play.
