Primrose School at Walsh is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support our school kitchen and help ensure our children receive nutritious, well-prepared meals in a clean and safe environment. This role is essential to our daily operations and directly supports the health and well-being of the children in our care.

Position Overview

The Kitchen Assistant works closely with the Kitchen Manager to assist with food preparation, kitchen organization, cleaning, and maintaining health and safety standards. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working behind the scenes, values cleanliness and organization, and takes pride in contributing to a nurturing school community.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with food preparation and meal service following Primrose Walsh menus and guidelines
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, dishes, utensils and equipment
  • Follow proper food handling, storage, and safety procedures
  • Support inventory organization and stocking of kitchen supplies and paper goods
  • Assist with accommodating food allergies and dietary restrictions as directed
  • Attend all required staff meetings, workshops and/or school functions
  • Maintain overall professional personal appearance adhering to the guidelines offered in the Primrose School at Walsh Employee Handbook
  • Assist in other capacities that Director, School Chef, or designee, determines is necessary
  • Work collaboratively with school leadership and staff
  • Comply with all rules and regulations at Primrose Walsh and the local, state or national regulatory agencies pertaining to the health, safety and care of children
  • Maintain an attractive, well-kept kitchen

Desired skills and experience:

  • Previous kitchen or food service experience preferred (but not required)
  • Ability to follow recipes, instructions, and safety procedures
  • Strong attention to cleanliness and organization
  • Dependable, punctual and team oriented
  • Food handler or kitchen manager certification preferred or willingness to obtain
  • Ability to relate positively to young children is essential
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. in connection with the handling of children for the facilitation of programs, child safety, and potential emergency situations

Mandatory Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
  • Must pass a background check conducted by Texas Child Care Regulation
