Year of the Dog! Dog is the 11th symbol in the Chinese Zodiac. Dog is man’s best friend, who understands the human’s spirit and obeys his master regardless of wealth. They are also loyal and help catch monsters. The Chinese regard the dog as a lucky symbol…. If a dog happens to come to a house, it symbolizes the coming of fortune. People born in the year of the dog are usually independent, sincere, loyal, and decisive! These characteristics make them have harmonious relationships with the people they are around. Happy Chinese New Year!
The word amistad means friendship. During Black History Month this word often comes up because it was also the name, ironically, of one of the slave ships taking unknowing people from Africa to America where they were forced into slavery. Yet amistad has come to represent much more—the hard work and friendships of abolitionists and activists that fought for a society free of slavery. All of our children made a link that was joined together to form a friendship chain. This is a perfect opportunity to talk about friendship with your child!
