Meet Dr. Betsy Tonniges, proud Franchise Owner and operator of Primrose School of Lincoln at Wilderness Hills. Betsy has a passion for childhood development and is excited to bring the Primrose Experience of the premier early childhood education and care to families in Lincoln.
Betsy shares the Primrose belief that who children become is just as important as what they know. Immediately upon stepping into a Primrose school, Betsy was drawn to the research based Balanced Learning™ approach incorporating purposeful play and nurturing guidance from teachers to encourage curiosity, creativity, collaboration, confidence and compassion. When asked about the Primrose Experience Betsy explains, “The Primrose Balanced Learning™ approach focuses on developmentally appropriate academics that are inquisitive and hands-on in nature, there is also optimal time throughout the day for children to make choices about their learning.”
Betsy and her husband, Jesse, are the proud parents of two school age children. A former public school educator, elementary principal and administrator, she was looking for an opportunity that allowed her to give back to the Lincoln community, but stay involved with children, families and learning. The goal she has established is to build lasting and trusted relationships with families to ensure that the choice you make in a childcare provider is one you can speak highly about and be proud of!
Betsy truly is a lifelong learner, graduating from Doane College with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Middle School Education with an emphasis in language arts and social sciences. She continued to earn her Masters degrees in Curriculum Instruction and Educational Leadership, along with endorsements in Early Childhood, ELL and Reading Specialist. Betsy earned National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) credentials in the area of Literacy and completed her Doctorate of Education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. In her spare time, Betsy volunteers and serves on the board with several organizations that directly benefit children and families within our community.
We look forward to meeting you and learning more about your hopes and dreams for your child’s early childhood experience! We have 3 boys, from infant to 3 years old to a recently graduated kindergartener. Primrose has provided wonderful care throughout so many stages of our growing family. Our Primrose relationship began in Gretna (Falling Waters) while Alan was working as a lender in residential construction financing at Union Bank and Erin was practicing as a general pediatrician in Fremont. We chose Primrose for several reasons, with the strongest reason being the wonderful dedicated people and well educated professional staff. Low and behold, life opportunities evolved and we found ourselves relocating for Erin to fulfill a "full circle" dream to practice general pediatrics in her hometown of Lincoln at Lincoln Pediatric Group. Without hesitation, we called Primrose of Wilderness Hills in Lincoln and quickly realized our kids would slide right into good hands with the familiar Primrose vibe and curriculum. We've now been in Lincoln for over a year and continue to have nothing but praises and gratitude for the heartwarming, fun, and dedicated people that we entrust to care for our children. The staff are well educated competent teachers in early childhood development and just great people in general! It's cliche to say, but so true, "it takes a village to raise a child" and we are so lucky to have Primrose as a part of ours. :-) ~ The Schmitz Family

There’s no question that parents want their preschoolers to grasp the basics of colors, numbers and letters to foster a lifetime of learning.
90% of a child’s brain develops in the first five years.
It might seem odd to think about your preschooler exploring data analysis and algebra.
Our Primrose 360Connect™ email delivers daily peace of mind and engagement in your child’s learning experience. As a Primrose parent, you’ll receive an update on your child’s activities, naps, meals and milestones. We also include photos so you can see what a great day your child is having.
It's a fact: children learn better when they are engaged. That's why purposeful play and nurturing guidance from teachers are key components of Balanced Learning. See how this time-tested approach with a strong emphasis on life skills and character development can help your child develop and excel.
