Happy Earth Day! Here are some fun facts for you: 70% of the earth is covered with water. Earth is estimated to be 4.5 billion years old. Nearly 99% of the species that have ever lived on Earth have gone extinct. 2015 was the warmest year on record since the 1880s. In many places Earth Day is celebrated for a week, it is called as Earth Week. The first wildlife refuge was formed in 1903 on Pelican Island Florida. Earth Day Flag is created by cartoonist Ron Cob, and was first published in Los Angeles Free Press on Nov 7, 1969. April 22 was the first day of spring in Northern Hemisphere and fall in southern hemisphere and hence it was chosen to be Earth Day. Visit earthday.org for ways you can help save the Earth!
