Jennifer and Mark Dennis

South Charlotte residents Mark and Jennifer Dennis both graduated from Virginia Tech with accounting degrees and began successful careers in accounting and business. So what led the couple to embark on a venture into education? After an 11-year career in the corporate world, Jennifer became a mom who found herself disappointed with local child care options for her first daughter. “I was surprised with how difficult it was to find day care in my area and overwhelmed with the waiting lists for infant care,” said Jennifer. “So I took matters into my own hands and became a stay-at-home mom.” As Jennifer enjoyed watching her two daughters learn and grow in her care, she was also inspired to look into a career in early childhood education. Jennifer learned about the Primrose Schools franchise opportunity through college friends who opened their own Primrose in Virginia. After traveling to Acworth, GA to meet with the Primrose Schools executive team, the Dennis’ signed on to open a new Primrose School at Austin Village in Matthews, NC. “When we sat down with the Primrose Schools education team, we were fascinated with the amount of research and passion behind the network’s nationally accredited curriculum,” said Jennifer. “We instantly saw the positive impact that we could have on the lives of children and parents in our community by bringing a Primrose School to the Matthews and Weddington area.” Jennifer spent two years preparing to handle the day-to-day operation of the new school. By volunteering at a nearby Primrose in the Charlotte market, Jennifer has learned all about the culture and curriculum that makes Primrose a leader in early childhood education. She has received 18 credits in Early Childhood Education and also has her North Carolina Early Childhood Administration Credential.
