Coronavirus (COVID-19) Preparedness, Precautions and Action Plan
We have all witnessed the ongoing developments surrounding the Coronavirus which has dominated news reports as the virus continues to spread across the globe. As governments and industries are taking substantial containment and preventative actions, we, too, have activated our Safe School Plan. Our Safe School Plan ensures that we are taking active measures to preserve the well-being and safety of the children, families and staff members within our schools. While there have only been 60 cases reported thus far in the United States, we want to advise you of pro-active steps we have underway to prepare for, take precautions against, and implement an action plan designed to minimize risk and maximize wellness at our school.
We are closely monitoring developments and implementing guidance set forth by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and local health authorities.Should the situation escalate further, we are prepared to take further action in accordance with our Safe School Plan and Crisis Resolution Action Response.Today, we met to put into place a comprehensive, staged plan that includes steps we are taking now, while also preparing for the possibility of epidemic-to-pandemic escalation, if directed by federal or local health agencies.
Here are steps you will begin to notice at the school:
oSchool Leadership and Staff have been advised of the Safe School Plan Activation and policies and procedures we are putting into place to identify, reduce and eliminate possible spread of infection in the school. This plan includes additional procedures staff will take to monitor their own as well as student wellness, personal hygiene and washing, proximity, classroom sanitization, classroom materials sanitization and immediate reporting of signs of illness.
Enhanced Sanitization Strategies
oFull-School Air Purification Units are being ordered for installation
oUpgrade to medical/hospital grade pre-mixed cleaning and disinfecting solutions
oFull classroom, restroom and hallway sanitization of all materials, technology devices, surfaces and structures
oPlaygrounds will be sanitized with hospital-grade disinfectant regularly
oInfection Prevention and Sanitation Stations have been ordered and will be installed throughout school
oDisinfecting wipes provided for use at door entry pad and clock in stations
oParents will be asked to take child’s temperature at clock in, and report to teacher and/or on KinderLime
oTeachers will conduct morning and afternoon “temperature and wellness” checks on each student and each other and report any signs of illness to school leadership and parents/guardians
oDue to the higher prevalence of infection among the elderly, we are contacting our Adopt a Grandparent Center and have requested that we adopt alternative means to maintain our interactive programming during this outbreak
oAll student handwashing must be done using school-provided antibacterial soap.If your child has an allergy, or sensitivity to this soap, please see your school leadership team for an appropriate resolution.Alternative options to remedy dry skin (application of lotion or other remedy) may be required in order to maintain efficacy of hand washing.
oFamily Style Dining will be suspended, so that teachers may serve all food to children with proper protection and reduction in cross contamination
oField trips to commonly high-attendance locations will be evaluated, and replacement destinations identified that pose lower risk of exposure.
oRemoval from school will be mandatory for any student exhibiting signs of infection, including respiratory distress, fever above 100.4 or confirmed viral or bacterial contagion.Students will be permitted to return to school with appropriate medical documentation from a licensed physician who has attended to and treated the child.
What You Can Do to Help:
From what the CDC knows about the virus today, it is spread mainly from person-to-person through respiratory droplets and inhaled into the lungs. There are everyday actions you can take to stay healthy and help keep all our students, families and staff healthy, including:
•Do not bring your child to school if he/she has respiratory distress symptoms and/or fever higher than 100.4.
•Seek immediate medical care and testing if flu-like symptoms are present in your child or other family members.
•If diagnosed with Coronavirus (COVID-19), notify us immediately, as we are required to notify the public health authorities, and keep all children at home until cleared by a doctor to return to school
•Use our provided sanitizing solution and wipes after you use the front door, keypads or public restrooms.
•Use our provided masks, footwear covers and other resources to prevent the spread of illness in the school.
•Wash your hands thoroughly and encourage your child to do the same prior to entering the school and following toileting/diapering/or any sneezing/coughing episodes.
•Consider a backup childcare plan in the event schools and/or other services you are enrolled in are required to close.
We will keep you updated as this situation develops. It is possible that certain components of our services may become impacted, such as possible disruptions to food service delivery, availability of certain sanitization resources and supplies, staff availability due to illness, and government-mandated actions and closures. We will continue to communicate with you as we proceed through this situation, so that you are fully informed.Should you wish to investigate our guidance further, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are tremendous sources for additional information to help you stay informed and prepared:http://www.cdc.gov.
As always, we are all here to partner with you in the education and care of your children. If you would like to reach out to any of us about this, or any other matter, we would welcome it!
