Why a private St. Charles County preschool is investing big money in a storm shelter (KMOV 4)
With the threat of severe weather a common concern for parents, Primrose School of St. Charles at Heritage will be the first private preschool, daycare, or child care provider in the area to offer a storm shelter constructed in accordance with the latest FEMA P-361 and ICC 500 standards. The storm shelter, which is rated to withstand winds of up to 250 mph, will feature 8 inch concrete reinforced walls and have the capacity to accommodate over 200 students, teachers and staff.
“As a mother, my heart skips a beat when the tornado sirens go off and my children are not somewhere with a basement,” said Jamie Ovlia, Franchise Owner of Primrose School of St. Charles at Heritage. “Parents are trusting us to keep their most precious belongings safe and when the tornado sirens go off, I need to know all 182 of our children and our teachers have a safe place to go.”
