Our school is making a difference in the community through our Caring and Giving Food Drive! This year, we donated 1,700 pounds of food – the equivalent of 3,000 meals – to Metropolitan Ministries, a nonprofit that supports homeless families in the Tampa Bay area.
As one of our annual Primrose Promise℠ Giving Events, the Caring and Giving Food Drive provides an opportunity for children to learn the joy of giving without expecting firsthand. During the month of November, Preschool and Pre-K students practice responsibility by earning money for the food items through age-appropriate chores at home. The children then use math, nutrition and planning skills in a hands-on way – they combine their money and count it, learn how to plan healthy meals and create shopping lists. We then take a field trip to a grocery store to purchase the food and deliver the items to those in need so the children can see their giving efforts come full circle!
At Primrose, we believe who children become is as important as what they know. The Caring and Giving Food Drive is just one example of how we nurture important character traits and help instill compassion and a desire to give back in children.
