We are the Sanjanwala family, longtime residents of the Kansas City area and the proud Owners of the Primrose School at KU Medical Center. We opened our first school, Primrose School of Overland Park, in March of 2013. We then opened our second school, Primrose School of North Olathe, in April of 2016. I am Shalin and will be overseeing the school at KUMC with my wife, Sunita

I completed my bachelor’s degree in engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, and received my master’s degree from the University of Kansas and I’ve worked in executive leadership in the Healthcare IT industry. Sunita attended the University of Michigan and has spent the past few years operating our Primrose School.

Family values have been a top priority for us, while we enjoyed our careers in the corporate world, we also wanted to pursue an endeavor that would teach our children the importance of family and community, and Primrose Schools gave us that opportunity. Our Primrose journey began when we sent our sons to the Primrose School of Leawood, which was the only school of its kind in the Kansas City area. We were amazed at the impact that Balanced Learning™ had on their intellectual, social and emotional development. When we noticed a lack of high-quality childcare options in the area, we decided to bring Primrose Schools to other families in Overland Park, Olathe and now the Kansas City area.

Primrose School at KU Medical Center is committed to upholding the highest standards in early childhood education and helping to lay the foundation necessary to help children succeed academically and in life. We strive to provide the best education for our own children, and we look forward to providing the KUMC community and surrounding area families with a quality, educational childcare experience that will positively impact their children for years to come!

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Peru University and graduated Summa Cum Laude. I began my career in the Omaha School District teaching children with special needs. After my time in Omaha, I spent several years teaching first and fourth graders for an elementary school in the top-rated Blue Valley School district.

Through the years I discovered my philosophy of teaching was changing. I attended Montessori when I was 4 years old and that made a big impact on my life. The child’s natural curiosity for learning and allowing the child to realize their fullest potential is so important to me as an educator. I decided to follow my desire to work with children at a younger age and transitioned my career to work in the Early Educational Childcare industry where I served as the Director of an early childcare center in the Kansas City area. Once I discovered Primrose Schools, I learned they embraced my mission, vision and values for delivering a high-quality early learning experience for all children. I am excited to be part of such a prestigious Early Childhood School.

I was born and raised in the Kansas City area and am an avid fan of the Royals and the Chiefs. I live in downtown Kansas City, close to the KU Med are, with my husband Keith, and our daughter Allison, who plans on attending the Kansas City Arts Institute in a few years. I also have a son, Johnathan, who is training to be a Navy Seal, and another son, Ricky, who lives and works in the Kansas City area. On weekends, I love discovering all the different locally owned restaurants and small businesses in Kansas City, as well as discovering the arts community with my daughter in the summers.
FalseTrueMelissa Taylor , School Director
staffCassandra DunnAssistant Director
Hello! I’m Cassandra Dunn but please feel free to call me Cassie. I am the Assistant Director here at Primrose School at KU Med. I have over 15 years of experience in early childhood education. I studied at St Mary’s College where I received my Montessori teaching certificate. I am an area native and currently reside in Prairie Village with my husband, two children and two dogs. As the assistant director, I look forward to making valuable connections with all parents and child care providers. Being a parent myself, I understand the importance of communication. When I’m not working at Primrose you’ll find me hopefully doing something outdoors with my family, which is our favorite place to be. I enjoy gardening, going on family bike rides and walks and cooking. I’m so pleased to be a member of the Primrose family and can’t wait to meet you!
FalseTrueCassandra Dunn , Assistant Director
