This month we would like to give recognition to the Mitchell family! The Mitchell’s have been a family at Primrose East Allen for many years. Lincoln is in currently transitioning to our Early Pre-School One Classroom. Kaylee is in our after school Explorers program. We love having the Mitchell’s as one of our Primrose Families! Hobbies and Activities: The Mitchell’s love going to the Allen Library as often as they can. They typically check out children's books, movies and audio books. They also enjoy arts and crafts time as well as playing board and card games. Family's favorite movie, book, or TV show: “We really enjoy watching movies like Moana, Boss Baby or Trolls. Our favorite TV shows are Paw Patrol, Magic School Bus and Miraculous but we also enjoy catching some American Ninja Warrior and anything on Food network.” What's one thing people would be surprised to know about your family? “We're not a very surprising bunch. We're originally from Northern California. We don't surf, don't tan well, or say "like" every other word. But we have enjoyed making Texas our home.” What qualities or traits did your child inherit from you? “The kids both have a love for books, which we believe they got from us. Kaylee has her mommy's toothy smile, and Lincoln has his daddy's cuddly personality." Why we chose Primrose East Allen? “We love Primrose. We feel like the kids are really happy and cared for at the school. It's always scary to try and find a place where you trust that they'll keep your kids safe and feel loved. We're happy to have found such a wonderful school!”
This month we would like to recognize Mrs. Amanda Weiner, one of our Pre-School teachers, as our Apple of the Eye! Mrs. Weiner joined our school in April ’17 and has made a wonderful addition to our Primrose East Allen teaching team! Mrs. Weiner brought fourteen years of experience working with children in both the PreSchool and elementary settings. She has a passion for teaching children and loves to observe children expressing themselves through art! Mrs. Weiner grew up in Carrolton, TX. She earned her Associate of Arts degree from the University of Central Florida with a focus on early childhood occupational therapy, as well as a second degree from Keiser University. Ms. Weiner is also a licensed COTA (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant) and has experience working with special needs children. Mrs. Weiner loves going to the zoo and spending time with her family and friends on the weekends. Mrs. Weiner approaches each day with a smile on her face and so much love and joy to her classroom and the students absolutely adore her! We love having Mrs. Weiner on our teaching team here at Primrose East Allen and appreciate all that she does for us and for her students each day!
The shift from preschool to kindergarten is a big milestone for any child. This huge step will be full of excitement, but it is also a time of new beginnings and routines. In the spirit of National Kindergarten Day, we asked three parents to share their secrets to success while their children were in kindergarten:
We all enjoyed our annual Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatter Tea Party! The students all made special hats and bonnets to enjoy with their "tea." Thank you to all of our teachers, parents and grandparents who helped make this event so much fun for the students!
One of our favorite units of learning here at Primrose East Allen is our unit on Life Cycles. In both the classrooms and in the front office we enjoyed watching caterpillars morph into butterflies! And our Kindergarten class nursed our chicken eggs in the incubator till the chicks began pipping and zipping out of their shells, which was exhausting for the little chicks! We kept them warm and fed up front so all of the students could share in the delight. But chicks grow quickly and don't care much for school, so we had to say good-bye to our fluffy friends and wished them well in their new home on the farm!
My daughter was a slow-to-warm-up baby and a well-behaved toddler. She never hit or pushed, but instead used her words — like the time she famously told me at age three, “Mommy, I don’t like the choices you’re choicing me.”
This month we would like to give recognition to the Holmes family! The Holmes’ have been a family at Primrose East Allen for a couple of years. Devyn is in our Early Pre-School One Classroom. We love having the Holmes’ as one of our Primrose Families! Hobbies and Activities: The Holmes’ enjoy the outdoors! They love going to local festivals and Devyn loves going down the slide at the nearby parks! “Devyn’s dad works nights as a police officer so sometimes family activities are hard to schedule around all of our work/sleep schedules. So we have a scheduled weekend brunch date nearly every weekend that we make a priority! We all love brunch food!” Family's favorite movie, book, or TV show: “The Man from Snowy River. It’s an old western that was Daddy’s childhood favorite, and it appears Devyn inherited his love of horses and this movie.” What qualities or traits did your child inherit from you? “Devyn is strong willed like her daddy, and very cheerful like mommy!” Why we chose Primrose East Allen? “During our daycare search when pregnant, Primrose of East Allen stood out to us because of their strong focus on a great curriculum starting at an early age and that they had the best results in terms of safety, violations, and compliance when comparing other local daycare facilities. Now that we have been a part of the Primrose family for 2+ years, our family has had nothing but a positive experience where we know Devyn is loved! It’s hard as a Mom and Dad to be away from your kiddo 40+ hours a week, so the confidence that we have in Primrose of East Allen makes that sacrifice so much easier!!”
This month we would like to recognize Mrs. Leah Derks, one of our Toddler teachers, as our Apple of the Eye! Mrs. Derks joined our school in August ’17 and has made a wonderful addition to our Primrose East Allen teaching team! Mrs. Derks attended Southeastern Louisiana University for her B.A and M.A. in Psychology. She also has her Childcare Development Associate credentials and has many years of experience working with both Toddlers and two-year olds. Mrs. Derks has three wonderful children: Nina (11), Hugh Jr.(9), and Luke(5, who attends our Pre-K program). They also have Cassie, who is their loving dog of twelve years. Ms. Derks enjoys reading, gardening, and playing outside with her family! Mrs. Derks approaches each day with a smile on her face and brings so much love and joy into her classroom! We can tell she absolutely loves all her students and her laugh and smile is contagious throughout the school. We love having Mrs. Derks on our team and appreciate all that she does for us and her students!
Play is a crucial part of the social, emotional and imaginative development of young children, but not all play is created equal!
While there are several different times per year when popcorn day is celebrated, we tend to celebrate them all! Parents and kids alike are invited to take a bag this evening on the way out! Some interesting facts.... Kernels of popcorn can pop up to 3 feet high. About 70% of popcorn sold in America is eaten in the home. Terms for unpopped popcorn include "spinsters" and "old maids" Orville began growing popping corn at the age of 12. Theaters usually sell snowflake-shaped popcorn.
We had a great day celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday! Students really enjoyed the special green egg snack (pudding with a vanilla wafer!) Be sure and check out all of our fun pictures from the day on our Facebook page.
Now if only they would stop drawing on the walls...
