Our Kindergarten Classroom
In our Kindergarten program, your child continues to build and expand on critical skills, including literacy and math. Primrose® introduces and reinforces new information through playful exploration, teacher-guided inquiry and rich discussion as they help foster Active Minds, Healthy Bodies, and Happy Hearts®.
Nurturing Active Minds, Healthy Bodies, and Happy Hearts
Active Minds
- Language & LiteracyLanguage & Literacy
During the early years of your child’s life, it’s important to lay the foundation for literacy development. Literacy skills are introduced and built upon through various activities, including read-alouds and teacher-directed small groups.
- Science, Engineering & TechnologyScience, Engineering & Technology
During Project Time, your child becomes an engineer as they practice creatively solving design challenges and real-world problems. For example, your child might work in a team to design a “vehicle” out of recycled materials and then test it to see if it works.
- MathematicsMathematics
Your kindergartener’s mathematical thinking moves beyond the understanding of simple patterns and counting. Teachers help your child learn problem-solving strategies and how math applies to everyday life as they play and explore using common objects.
- Social StudiesSocial Studies
In the Kindergarten classroom, your child explores geography concepts, economics and global awareness as they learn about various cultures and gain respect for diverse beliefs. They also plan a giving event for their community as they learn and practice compassion and generosity.
Healthy Bodies
- Thumbs Up!: Physical DevelopmentThumbs Up!: Physical Development
Your child practices individual skills as well as participates in fun game-like situations with partners and in small groups. They also strengthen gross motor muscles by climbing, jumping and running on age-appropriate playgrounds.
- Health & Safety
- Balanced Menus: NutritionBalanced Menus: Nutrition
Teachers at Primrose schools know how to turn lunch into more than a tasty, healthy meal. They help your child become more independent by encouraging them to serve themselves and clean up after meals. Teachers also monitor eating and talk about the health benefits and nutritional value of the foods they are enjoying.
Happy Hearts
- Character Development & Life SkillsCharacter Development & Life Skills
In our Happy Hearts Character Development Program®, children learn the importance of caring for and giving back to others by participating in activities that nurture empathy, teamwork, generosity and other essential character traits that prepare them for life.
- Social SkillsSocial Skills
Teachers use the Primrose Friends puppets, Rules of the Roost and more to help your kindergartener learn about kindness, taking care of the classroom and being a good citizen in their community.
- Creative Arts & ExpressionCreative Arts & Expression
Exploring visual and creative arts, like music, literature and painting, will stimulate your kindergartener’s imagination and critical-thinking skills, which will enhance other areas of learning and development. For example, music is more than a melody; it’s a universal language made up of patterns and sequences, and teachers use it to help your child learn literacy and mathematical concepts.
