  • Carrie Artus, Director

    Carrie Artus

Hello, I’m Carrie Artus and I bring over 35 years of Early childhood experience to Primrose School of Cedar Park West. I have been with Primrose Schools for over 14 years. I have been the Director here at Cedar Park West since August 2015. I spent 10 years as the Director of the Primrose School of Round Rock at Forest Creek, and another year and 1/2 at the Primrose School of Round Rock. I was on the Preschool support staff at Great Hills Baptist church for over 5 years as well. During that time, I built positive relationships with the children, parents, staff, and franchisees. I am so excited about partnering with Team Fischer here at the Cedar Park area. I have had an awesome time here at CPW getting to know all our amazing families. I have learned so much over the years from all my Primrose connections. I really love that we make positive differences in the lives of young children, families and staff.

    On a more personal level…

I was blessed to be married to my best friend for over 28 years until he passed away unexpectedly in 2008. I miss him dearly but enjoy watching “him” through our three grown children’s lives. We currently have 7 grandchildren, Aidan, Avery, Emmalee, Abigail, Hannah, Ellie and Benjamin. One of my greatest joys has been watching my granddaughters grow up as Primrose Kids!!

In my spare time, I really enjoy watching sporting events. I am a Die-Hard (and we do, every year) Minnesota Viking, UT Longhorn, and Dallas/Texas Stars Hockey fan. I keep telling everyone “It’s our rebuilding decade”. I also love movies! You will frequently hear me asking staff “What movie? What movie?” for all those famous one liners.

I look forward to many happy learning adventures with you and your family here at Primrose School of Cedar Park West.

  • Mongo Yang, Assistant Director

    Mongo Yang

    Assistant Director

My name is Mongoshua, pronounced Mon-Go-Shua, AKA Mongo. I was born and raised in Merced, CA and lived in Redding, CA for seven years prior to moving to Austin in early 2018. I grew up in a rather large family with many brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and cousins! My siblings and I are the first generation born in the United States. My parents immigrated from Laos during the Vietnam War and settled in the West Coast where most of my family members are currently living. I won’t share what my ethnicity is, but I’ll share a hint (hint: Google “Secret War”).

Education and Experiences-After high school, I attended a fashion institute in Sacramento, CA where I pursued a degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising. This is where I learned the history and designs of Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Marc Jacobs, and the list continues. I quickly realized that fashion designing was more of a hobby than a career, so I took a different route. Though, I still hold fashion and all things beauty very closely to my heart.

When I moved to Redding, CA in 2011, I gained a strong interest in Early Childhood Education. I studied Early Childhood Education, Human Development, and Social Sciences while working full-time as a Pre-K teacher; student taught at Shasta Head Start; and completed my student observation courses at a home day care. I experienced what it’s like to be in all three different Early Childhood Education environments.

During my studies, I worked closely with my professors, mentors, and colleagues. These individuals taught and trained me to be the best Early Childhood Educator I could be. They taught me that patience, time and dedication, and a positive attitude are some of the keys to being successful. I hope to carry these traits with me wherever I go.

Fast Forward-In 2018, Alex and I made the biggest decision of our eight years together (eight years at that time) to move to Austin. People often asked us why we moved to Austin. We moved here because of the job opportunities and we (more like I) fell in love with the city when visiting one of Alex’s clients in 2017. Austin brought and currently brings so much light into our social lives and I couldn’t imagine living elsewhere. I absolutely find joy exploring the food scene and meeting new friends.

Very shortly after settling in Austin, Primrose School of Cedar Park West hired me to join their team. I was ecstatic to join such an amazing and high-quality school as the Preschool II Teacher. A few months later, I was given the opportunity to become the Assistant Director. It was bittersweet to say goodbye to such a wonderful classroom but the opportunity to be in a different role was even more exciting. I am grateful to be a part of the Primrose team and to be given the role to lead such an outstanding group of individuals!

  • Shay Thompson

    Parent Relations Coordinator

My name is Shay Thompson and I was born and raised in North Austin. Our schools surrounding neighborhoods were my childhood stomping grounds. I've stayed and worked in this area in restraunts for my entire adult life. I came to Primrose in search of a more meaningful way to give back to the community.

When I'm not giving my all at work, you can find me swimming or fishing at Bull Creek or at home snuggling with my two cats. I have a 14 year old named Err an a 5 year old named Kitty. They have been wonderful teachers at responsibility but their little furry bodies can't hold all the love I have to give, so I'm here to share that love with our Primrose families.

    Kitchen Manager

My name is Stephanie Colvin. I lived in North Austin, Texas for 18 years. My passion for cooking started at a young age watching my grandma and my mother cooking dinner for the family. I've been in the service industry for 12 years and graduated from culinary school in 2012. Being part of a big family it was natural for me to have dreams of a family of my own. My husband and I welcomed our beautiful daughter Mia in 2015. When this beautiful creature came into my life I search for a way to combine my time with her and my passion for cooking. Primrose was a natural choice for myself professionally and my daughter educationally.

  • Bonnie Lemus, Private Kindergarten Lead Teacher

    Bonnie Lemus

    Private Kindergarten Lead Teacher

Hello Primrose Families! My name is Bonnie Lemus and I am new to Primrose of Cedar Park West but not new to Primrose, as I worked at the Round Rock location for 13 years. My experience there was teaching Pre-Kindergarten class and other positions as well.

One of the reasons that has kept me at Primrose is having my own children with me at Primrose and watching them grow and participate in the many educational programs Primrose has to offer and some of the best teachers any parent could ask for. I have also enjoyed building relationships with the families and being part of the growth of the children and siblings. It has been very rewarding for me personally and professionally. It is very rare to have that “warm feeling” when you walk into a place and feel like you are appreciated and respected for what I do as early childhood educator.

When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my family. I am happily married to my husband Mario of 21 years. We met in El Paso, TX which is where I am originally from. He was in the military stationed in Ft. Bliss in the Army. He is also a former Marine and a veteran of Desert Storm. We have two beautiful daughters. My oldest daughter Kassy, is 20 years old and attends ACC. She plans to transfer to North University in Denton, TX to obtain her degree in Interior Design. My youngest daughter is Breesa, she is 12 years old and is a 7th grade student at Wiley Middle School. We also have two dogs, Daisy and Donnie. Daisy is a Catahoula/lab mix and Donnie is a Blue Heeler/Australian Sheppard mix. They are very sweet and keep us busy. During my free time I love to cook! I can cook almost anything and like feeding people especially my friends! I also love watching movies! I learned this year how much I love football!!!! I am a 49er fan and have a lot of fun watching them play! Especially when they WIN!

I am very happy to be here and look forward to meeting many more families and getting to know your children!

  • Jay and Robin Fischer, Franchise Owner

    Jay and Robin Fischer

    Franchise Owners

We are Jay and Robin Fischer. Originally from Minnesota, we have been in the Austin area since 1998. We are the proud parents of three children, Bennett and Jackson (twin boys born in 2000) and Ella (born in 2003). After our sons were born we began looking for quality childcare where our children would be safe and happy and receive an excellent preschool education. Upon learning about Primrose, we made the decision to become franchise owners. We entered the Primrose family in late 2003, when we had the opportunity to purchase Primrose School of Round Rock and Primrose School of Round Rock at Forest Creek. In 2008, we opened our third location, Primrose School of Cedar Park West. In 2013 we chose to downsize and focus on the Cedar Park/Leander communities. In 2015 we opened Primrose School of Crystal Falls. We were fortunate to have all three of our children attend Primrose. Our twin boys are currently attending Texas A&M and our daughter is in her senior year. Robin is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and holds a degree in Sociology. Prior to Primrose, Robin worked in the insurance industry as a Casualty Claims Manager. Jay has a business degree from the University of Minnesota and a MBA from the University of St. Thomas. Prior to Primrose, Jay worked as a Program Manager for an information technology research firm. We are thrilled to be franchise owners and are excited about the opportunity to continue providing quality educational childcare to the Cedar Park/Leander community.
