In honor of Read Across America Day, our students celebrated the joy of reading with the help of our Primrose Friend Og the Bookworm!
Leading up to Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2, Primrose children and families read together at home, shared favorite stories with classmates and participated in a month-long book drive as part of one of our Primrose PromiseSM Giving Events, Og’s Bountiful Books. The event is intended to raise awareness of the importance of early literacy and increase access to books for children in our community.
This year, we were thrilled to collect and donate 1,013 books to the University of South Florida (USF) Health Reach Out and Read, a nonprofit that works with pediatric physicians to give children greater access to books and encourage families to read together. Thank you to all of our teachers, staff, students and Primrose families who helped us make a difference!
We also made Read Across America Day come to life in the classroom with “Seussical” crafts and festive decorations.A resident from USF Health made a special visit to read to students and explain how their book donations will positively impact other children through the Reach Out and Read program.
As part of our Primrose Balanced Learning® approach, we nurture early literacy skills and giving without expectation in our classrooms every day. At Primrose, we believe who children become is as important as what they know. Og’s Bountiful Books is just one example of how we bring the joy of giving to life for children.
