Megan and Jeff Derrington, along with their children, Miles and Hannah, are our Family of the Month for September. Megan writes, “Our son, Miles, began attending Primrose School of Barker Cypress when he was about 6 months old. Prior to that, he attended another facility where the staff turnover was very high, and the communication from the office staff was extremely poor. We saw three different directors come and go in the short time we attended there. When a spot opened up in the Infant class at Primrose Barker Cypress, we jumped at the chance to join. Our daughter, Hannah, was born in July 2015 and has been attending here since she was 6 weeks old (Primrose actually found out I was pregnant before our families did so we could get on the waiting list ).
Miles is now in the Preschool class and is getting ready for Pre-K in the fall. One of his favorite things to do every morning when he gets to school is to sign in by writing his name. He is so proud he can write his name all by himself. He also comes home and sings songs we’ve never heard before (Five little pumpkins sitting on a fence…) which makes me so proud as a mom. At times we feel like he’s teaching us things!
Hannah is now in the Toddler class where she is learning important things like sharing and how to have patience. She enjoys bringing her books to class to read with her friends when she gets Og’s Book Bag. We especially enjoy reading the Happy Grams from her teachers that tell us something she did that day.
We refer to Primrose as a school rather than a daycare. The main difference in our eyes is the enriched learning environment. We love receiving the weekly curriculum emails every week so we can stay in tune with what our kids are learning. As parents, it’s important for us to know our kids are spending the day with teachers who care for them. I think every teacher at Primrose knows my kids’ names, and they greet them with a smile.
We always look forward to the holiday parties, pictures with Santa, and our course, Spring Fling! We love being part of the Primrose family and look forward to many more years here!”
