Throughout December, we are celebrating heart-warming stories of Primrose students exhibiting exceptional kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity with a blog series: Primrose Happy Hearts. This post comes to us from Scott Gass, Franchise Owner at Primrose School of Legacy in Omaha, Neb.
When my wife Pam and I took ownership of Primrose School of Legacy in Omaha, Neb., we had no idea that one little boy would become so inspirational to us and all of our students, families and staff. Charlie, a rising kindergartener at our school, was diagnosed with severe pancreatitis several months ago. To say his family was going through a tough time was an understatement, with months spent making countless trips back and forth to the hospital for diagnosis, treatment and surgery.
During this time, Charlie exhibited superhero qualities – his attitude was beyond incredible. A 5-year-old dealing with such a difficult experience, yet he always had a smile on his face. Everyone at our school was so inspired by Charlie’s strength that they adopted him as their “superhero” and held a special dress-up day, showing their love and support for him in masks and capes. Our school community also came together for a dinner to raise money for Charlie’s family during that time. Seeing hundreds of people gather to help one of our own families truly touched our hearts.
When we became Primrose Franchise Owners, Pam and I made a commitment: we would provide a full scholarship to an outstanding family in a situation of need. We are beyond thrilled to have the first recipient be none other than Charlie. As he continues to show his superhero strength and perseverance, we wanted to show his family how honored we are to have such an inspiring student among us. Charlie is on the road to recovery and very much looking forward to coming back to school with his friends.
You’re our superhero, Charlie, and we can’t wait to have you back!
