Fall Family Bucket List

Baby boy visits a pumpkin patch as part of his family's fall bucket list

Fall Family Bucket List

Pumpkin patches, apple picking and falling leaves — fall is here and there are endless ways to celebrate with your kids! We asked parents to share some of their favorite ways to ring in the season. Check out our bucket list below for easy fall activities:

  • Make a Leaf Pile. “We take a yearly photo of our children playing in a leaf pile. We now have eight photos lining our staircase (this year will make the ninth!) showing how the kids have grown. Plus, if your kids are old enough, this is a great opportunity to teach them how to help with yardwork!” – Traci, mom of 2
  • Create Your Own Fall-Themed Treats. “We love to take a family apple picking trip every year to an orchard outside of town. The kids help harvest the apples, and then we bring them home to make different apple recipes, including apple slushies. The recipe is so easy– just blend chopped apples, some cider or juice, and ice.” – Karen, mom of 3
  • Have an Indoor Camping Trip. “We love to go ‘camping’ inside with our daughters. We build a fire in the fireplace and make all the classics, like hot dogs, s’mores and even grilled banana boats. We set up a tent in the living room, gaze at the stars, and use flashlights for a shadow puppet show. It’s a great way to introduce toddlers to the joys of camping without the hassle.”  – Lacey, mom of 2
  • Make Your Own Costumes. “My kids come up with the greatest costume ideas. We get creative and make them at home, because every kid needs to be a dinosaur at some point.” – Randall, dad of 3
  • Stuff Your Own Scarecrow. “We like to make our own scarecrow for our front yard! We stuff him with leaves, and the kids help draw the face and pick out his ‘clothes.’ It’s our favorite way to decorate for fall.” – Caroline, mom of 2
  • Visit a Pumpkin Patch. “You can’t beat the classic visit to a pumpkin patch. Our trips are complete with a hay ride and carving pumpkins after!” – Ellie, mom of 1
