Children love to explore the world using their senses. Here are two fun kitchen activities that encourage sensory learning!
Supplies:
- 8 parts flour
- 1 part oil (canola or olive)
- Large bowl
- Spoon
- Optional: cookie cutters or play molds
Instructions:
- Ask your child to help measure the flour and oil. Use the spoon to mix the ingredients together in a bowl.
- Spread the dough onto a flat surface.
- Encourage your child to mold, touch and shape the dough. Ask her questions about the texture of the dough and her creations!
Supplies:
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 cup water
- 5 drops of food coloring (2-4 different colors)
- Large bowl
- Spoon
Instructions:
- Ask your child to help measure cornstarch and water into a bowl.
- Have your child mix the two ingredients together, then add 5 drops of differently-colored food coloring into the mix.
- Ask your child to gently mix the food coloring, then discuss the texture and the colors in the mix. Ask your child if she thinks it’s a solid or a liquid.
