New MN Booster Seat Laws (7/1/2009)

Primrose School of Woodbury Responds to New Minnesota Booster Seat Law with Free Safety Seat Checks & Training for the Local Community

In response to the new Minnesota statute 169.685 (https://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/statutes/?id=169.685) regarding child passenger safety, Primrose School of Woodbury (www.primrosewoodbury.com), a local private preschool and educational child care center will begin offering free child seat safety checks and instruction at the school.

Travis Holt, the owner of Primrose School of Woodbury, is a Certified Passenger Safety Technician, trained by the Minnesota Department of Traffic Safety.  Beginning this week, local families may contact the school to schedule their free child car seat safety check with Mr. Holt which includes how to properly install and use a child booster seat.
Appointments will be available on Mondays between 12 noon and 2 p.m.  Families should call 651-731-5333 to schedule their appointment.

“We take child safety very seriously at Primrose.  Using a child seat or booster the right way is a very small precaution we, as parents and care givers, can take to ensure the safety of our children.  I decided to earn my certification, because as a parent, I want to be sure my children are safe in my vehicle.  I can now better inform the parents in my school and in our local community about protecting all children,” said Travis Holt, owner, Primrose School of Woodbury.

“This is an excellent example of community service by an important member of our business and education community,” said Bill Hargis, Mayor of Woodbury.

The new Minnesota law that goes into effect July 1 requires a child who is both under age 8 and shorter than 4’9” to be fastened into a child safety seat that meets federal safety standards.  Under this law, a child may not use a seat belt alone until the child is age 8 or greater than 4’9” tall.  It is recommended to keep a child in a booster based upon their height, rather than their age.

In addition to the Primrose School of Woodbury, Primrose School of West Plymouth, Primrose School of The Lakes at Blaine and Primrose School of Maple Grove in Minnesota have each assigned a staff member to become certified in Passenger Safety.  These schools will begin offering a similar service to their communities in the coming months as soon as their certifications have been completed.
