2009 Can-A-Thon - Primrose Gives Back (11/13/2009)
Demonstrating their commitment to giving to others, Primrose School of Cross Creek and Primrose School of Tampa Palms recently helped feed families suffering from hunger throughout the Tampa area. On November 10th, the preschoolers donated canned food items and non-perishable food to Metropolitan Ministries, a local food bank.
The students earned money by completing extra chores at home, pooled their earnings and then counted it in the classroom. The students then reviewed grocery store sale advertisements to find the best values on nutritional food, created a detailed shopping list and took a field trip to Publix Supermarket to shop for non-perishable food items, teaching them many life lessons while aiding local families in need.
The donation of nearly 700 pounds of food items comes when American families find themselves in critical need as men, women and children face hunger.
Giving back to the community was a major focus of the annual food drive, as well as a key component of Primrose Schools’ Balanced Learning® curriculum, which blends teacher-directed and child-initiated activities with special emphasis on character development. The Caring and Giving program is a nationwide initiative, with participation from 200+ Primrose Schools across the country and helps students understand the value of generosity and creates a hands-on approach to math, nutrition and planning skills.
